Tips to improve performance
We live in a society where nutrition and diet always seem to appear in the news in some form or another.
As a result this is an area that we became more aware of and understood that a healthy diet would have a positive impact on your overall health, but could it also impact your ability to learn?
A lot of research from the government suggests it does so we wanted to summarise some of the points that we found most interesting.
Tip – if your child does not like fish then try fish oil capsules as a substitute
- Omega 3 oils are the building blocks of the brain.
- These can be found in fish like salmon and tuna.
Tip – instead of juice or fizzy drinks try diluting unsweetened fruit juice with water
- A child’s brain is 75% water.
- Thirst can lead to tiredness and a short attention span.
Tip – avoid sugar based cereals and try to use brown bread. Also pure fruit smoothies can also provide a good start to the day.
- Slow release energy.
- A good breakfast is essential on the exam day, so that your child is able to maintain their concentration through the morning.
Tip - Encourage your children to go out in the garden instead of sitting in front of the television or computer.
- Get active.
- Exercise fills the blood with oxygen which feeds the brain
Tip - Sleep.
- A lack of sleep will inevitably result in your child waking up tired and unable to concentrate.
- On average children at primary school need 10 hours sleep every night.
These are merely suggestions and ultimately you know what’s best for your child, but with parents looking to ensure they are maximising their child’s chances of success we thought it might be useful.
