About the 11 plus exams
There will be several questions going through your mind. Listed below are the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.

So what exactly are they?
They are competitive exams which your child will have to pass in order to gain a place at either a grammar or senior independent (private) school.
Unfortunately there are no standard exams and the exams will vary between schools. However, you will need to prepare your child for a combination of the following:-
- Maths
- English
- Verbal reasoning
- Non-verbal reasoning
Does my child have to sit the exams?
Yes, if you want them to attend a selective grammar or senior independent school.
No, if you are happy for them to attend the local comprehensive!
How should I go about preparing my child to improve their chances?
This will vary from child to child, but in general follow these guidelines:-
- Contact your LEA or senior independent school to find out the format of exams
- Start preparing early (some parents start 2 years in advance)
- Practise, practise, practise (there is no harm in repeating papers after a suitable period of time)
